Invisible Skateboards
These guys paint their skateboards with green screen paint and digitally remove them. The result makes a very cool video effect.

This was a VERY professional shoot, planned & directed by Spike Jonze of many videos, ads & "Being John Malkovich". The FX work was done by one of the major commerical fx houses.
Spike's gift is to make it (and all his work) look so natural, but he is the most prepared & planned director I have worked with.

Fake. The shadows from the boards never show up. While green-screening will remove the boards from the picure, their shadow would still be there. Probalby done with ropes or an FX system that can make a green-screened arena appear below the surface the rest of the objects are resting on. Still a very nice video however. Reminds me of Back to the Future.

does anyone know what song
this is?
Commented by: yeah right on September 23, 2006 07:25 PM
Actually, they didn't use chroma key. You can see shadows going beneath the skateboards. I don't know how they did it, but they didn't use green paint.
Commented by: Ian on September 23, 2006 07:33 PM
That was so professionally filmed, and the video was so good put together.
Can anybody tell me the name of the song?
Commented by: Cool video! on September 24, 2006 09:50 AM
Tt´s not very difficult to make this effect with a fixed camerapoint. I´ve seen some tutorials you can work at with adobe after-effects.
But the HARD thing as in this video is, that the camera is in motion and so you have to work at EVERY frame of the whole videopart.
This is real Artwork!!!
Commented by: andless on September 24, 2006 02:24 PM
Not clear on how they eliminated the shadow from the board itself. That's pretty cool!
Commented by: skinz on September 25, 2006 12:25 AM
They used Effi-Eks.It was developed at Berkley and it allows the parts to be removed without any sign of it ever being there..like a devo-specx
that u can intergrate into the film scape allowing for the factoring of the coloring effects. The missing shadows is simply because it was done at night, and when the film was processed it was put through a fiber chamber to add a darkening light effet.
Commented by: madmike on September 25, 2006 04:34 PM
hey madmike,I have heard of that special effects that your describing but actually is has a shadeing effect rather than a complete removal of desired object, the fiber chamber actually has a lightening effect on dark objects by removal of the coloring spectrum when it is affected by light versus dark,so therefor no shadow but in actuality you have a demension added to the effect by the barometric effectx channel when exposed over a brief period.
Commented by: idonothavesarscoughcough on September 26, 2006 11:51 AM
What a load of bullcrap. You have no idea what you are talking about. What the hell is a fiber chamber much less a barometric effectx?????

But on some forums I see strange posts, they offer to buy some pills or something and they look very stupid. It is robots posting? I thought moderators should delete such posts. Maybe somebody will explain me what's going on? But at all it is very interesting to speak to all you people!

There is a website called the The International Society for the Promotion of Cruelty to Attorneys and I've noticed that it's GONE! Someone has got to take the torch from them. I've got a site with not much on it about
malpractice law and am considering turning this into one which would resurrect the aforementioned society. Anyone know where the great folks that started the group can be found? What say you, is their enough flailing of lawyers already or could we use a bit more of that on the planet as their numbers swell.
