Nah, not cruel. I'm a very loving mother and know that in some situations you just can't help laughing, and that was funny. And kids sooo overreact. Whether the boy was large or not has very little to do with it, or how "step-mom" feels toward him, he was strapped in and appeared to be in no real danger. Besides physical laws in regards to their relative sizes would dictate how much she could have helped him up.

Come off it...the mother isnt laughing because of the step-sons misfortune, she's laughing because of the adrenalin and because that kid is seriously overreacting. If me and my mum were in that ride and i was whining like that, she would laugh and i wouldn't blame her. And if there was any possibility that that kid could have fallen out, he wouldn't have been allowed on in the first place. And of course there would have been straps coming up from between their legs- thats just common sense.

And to the ISAA advisor, i dont discriminate against overweight people and i don't treat them differently but the simple fact is, a kid that age should not be that fat. Instead of promoting political correctness towards obese people, we should be using this energy to stop these kids from becoming obese in the first place.

I think one thing to keep in mind while watching this video is that she isn't seeing him the way we are. We can see he was really slipping, and seems to be changing color towards the end (he looks really gray, but that might just be low quality video). He did appear to be over-reacting at first, and she probably didn't realize that he really was caught dangerously in his seat belt. She's next to him, she knows that the main part of the ride is over and as far as she's concerned they are safe and he was just still scared from the ride.
This is funny because we know he's okay. If I were really watching this in real time, I'd be scared shitless for that kid. But its over, and presumably he's okay... so its funny.
Also, to those that wonder why we assume she's the step-mom -- he refers to her as "Janice" or "Janet". Most kids call their step-parents (or their parents boyfriend/girlfriend) by first name, few call their parents by name.
