I am a lecturer myself. My college has regrettably forbidden use of my GSM jammer....

I wish professor would have thrown cellphone at student, then bited student on ear. Swallow ear and say "Look here stupid boy, now you cannot hear from phone no more!! Then other students may kill stupid boy and get rest of classtime for free.

Fake. No effort on part of student to hold onto the phone, and no verbal protestation when it is taken away from him. That said, cellphones are one of the reasons that I don't go to the movie theatres anymore, that and exceptionally rude audiences.

I'm gunna say not fake on this one. We're able to to video lectures at ASU. Also, I'm not sure about other countries, but in the US professors are given some respect.

That's great that the professor did that! Anyone who's been to college knows that instructors don't appreciate phones ringing during their lectures, and ask that you turn them off before class. Especially after TAKING the phone call, that student deserved what he had coming to him. Suck it up, cry baby.

haha he deserved what he got (if its a really video) hate when phones go off they go off in cinemas and the rest and if they take the call its even worse especially in cinema, library etc. There is nothing worse when serving someone and they are too busy talking on the phone to answer what your asking so turn the phone off or put on silent or at the very least dont take the bloody call when in these sort of situations.

Not sure if it is true or fake, but.
Clearly this man is in the wrong. It makes no sense to smash a cell phone like this. Just simply say that cell phones are not allowed in class and ask the student to leave. I think the professor made himself look like an egotistical fool unable to control his primitive behaviors at what most people would find distasteful, and mildly offensive at best. This just illustrates how hypocritical and egocentric many professors are. College (for most people) is meant to prepare students for the real world. This professor is shielded in his college fantasyland. Try smashing your colleague, bosses, or employees cell phone in the real world. You better own the company and have an umbrella policy.

This is 100% real, I was in the class it's a class on Urban Studies and Cities. It was the first day of class, and the prof was going over the course outline and during the beginning of the class he mentioned how he isn't fond of technology, and how everyone should turn off their cells before entering class. The guy that you see there came late, and the prof was already pissed about people showing up late.

After he smashed it, he apologized. BTW The cell was fine, just a little scratched up but it still worked I think. I dropped the class because it was boring, so I don't know if that guy is still in the class.

Why would anybody feel sorry for the kid who got his phone smashed? I do admit it was a bit extreme of the professor, but being that rude he deserved it. Also the person earlier who had said "College is about getting prepared for the real world", guess what? Phone rings during a meeting, you're fired. FORD loses more executives that way than through blunders.

Personally I would have dropped the kid from the class, no need to have a rude student in there. Why take a call when you know the professor can SEE and HEAR you? He must have gotten in on a waiver. For all of you that missed that, that means he is retarded.

Also if he was a new professor, given an award, or just having an inspection they would be recording the class. If it is a class that is also distance learning they sometimes film for that.

i really don't think it was fake... some student could have been recording the lecture on a cell phone with video capabilities... but then again... a lot of the stuff on this site you wonder... why would someone be filming nothing and crazy shit just happens...

of course it was real! most universities these days (at least in the us) record their classes so students could review them if need. it made sense the student remained quiet because he was probably in shock! good for the prof for smashing the phone!

Two thoughts. First, the owner of the cell phone is clearly rude and distruptive. It's obnoxious when individuals don't turn their cell phones off in classrooms, theaters, meetings, etc. Second, the professor should have been the bigger of the two individuals and shown some restraint. Take the cell phone, deduct points from the students grade, kick the student out of the class but losing your temper and smashing the cell phone is a little over the top (albeit I'll admit, pretty funny).

The professor should have pulled out a gun and blown the kids brains out...now that would have been funny and a great clip!!

That may have been real, that may have been fake, but maybe it was staged. What a better way to get students to remember to turn off your phones when you get into HIS class? Would you use your phone in his class after seeing or even hearing that he did that? I think not :P

Hey fucktard, have you ever been to school? Like what the others said, students sometimes record their classes cause it'd be a lot easier for reviews and all. Or maybe it was some sort of evaluation. Some schools have been doing that (as far as I remember) since the year 1998.

When he heard the phone ringing, he could've searched for the guy with the cellphone, using his EYES of course. And when he finally sees him, he then points his camera on him. Wake up!!!

And I'd like to add...
Yes, we all know the student was wrong in the first place for not turning off his cellphone or put it on vibrate/silent. But still, what the professor did is against the kid's rights. It's his property. He should've just took his phone and kicked him out of class, not smash it on the ground. The professor can be asked to replace the poor kid's cellphone and apologize to him, or, the kid could just simply sue his ass!
