What a great song to play! Its hard to believe that its a student orchestra! (in a good way) That was awesome!

I'm at work and someone took my speakers so it sounded pretty lame to me,and I cant lip read..

It reminds of the the time the London Philarmonic played Oasis, which I think is a great thing for a student orchestra to be compared to.
The bass is fantastic although the strings may need jsut a little more practice. Personally I've got some quite big PC speakers, but I think on CD on a decent stereo, that would just blow you away!
Now, where do I get the CD?!

Just great.
Commented by: trman on October 9, 2006 01:18 PM
that sounded like crap! not a thing like the origional!!!
Commented by: zack on October 9, 2006 04:26 PM
Very good job, so nice to hear an orchestra play something halfway current instead of old slow crap songs that nobody enjoys except grandma and grandpa. Kudos to the orchestra and whoever approved this. Hope to see more like this!!

Overall, pretty cool, but there are some parts that are off.
Commented by: sdg on October 9, 2006 06:37 PM
I had no idea you could do that with those instruments.
Commented by: Ian on October 9, 2006 10:09 PM
that was incredible and to trman it didn't sound like the original? It's not supposed to sound exactley like the original. Orchestra and grunge are different kinds of music do i need to spell it out for you
Commented by: gregg on October 9, 2006 11:32 PM
There are some really great parts, but a lot of parts where the drummer just ruins it. I'd like to hear it without the drummer, just strings, as they do a pretty good job of laying the rhythm down.

hey jackass
how about I drum on yer head punk....I'm reading sheet music and do as I'm told.....and I still have my pick of a bunch of band hunnies.....

Meh, This is a really crappy orchestral arrangement. would have been better if a symphonic band did it. I dont really like this all that much, the great britian ukulele orchestra does a FAR better job of it. Good material, decent performance, arrangement sucks.
Commented by: Windwaker on October 10, 2006 08:52 PM
Definitely a great concept, but it was rough. The arco has no character. The cellos were horrific, but the bass was solid. Coulb de amazing with more work, but a great start.

that was amazing. I will talk about this on our daily video podcast. www.thenewwrinkle.com

it is a great effort, i like it sounds good. and zack, you are not allowed to post comments here any more!!!
Commented by: eddie on October 10, 2006 10:55 PM
So, um, pretty cool, but the orchestra could use more practice. And admittedly, not so great an arrangement. Good effort, and kudos to the person who picked the music, but not spectacular.
Commented by: Sonya on October 10, 2006 11:44 PM
look, i play drums, sheet music isn't that hard to read, and you (the drummer) botched up the whole peice. also, i don't see what's supposed to be so great. a beggining orchestra could play this. it isn't that hard.
Commented by: adifferentdrummer on October 11, 2006 12:06 AM
Just Wonderful!! Wish I had better sound on this computer -what a talented group & I agree Kudos to their conductor for approving this selection!
I'd love to hear a higher quality recording of this :0)
Great Job!
Commented by: Sara on October 11, 2006 12:06 AM
How did I botch up the whole peice you moron? We were playing for a whole bunch of parents on a school night. This was shot with someone's hand cam with out any mixing of sound. If this had been properly mixed it would have sounded much better, but thats not the point.Any crap can be made to sound good if properly mixed. These were our parents and it was for them.Maybe you the different drummer might have spent a little more time in english class instead of sleeping. The person shooting this was sitting near a group of speakers, that was primarily being fed off of a mike near my drum set.Anyways,it was a fantastic night and I scored with one of the cello players, who is quite hot.

this is really original.. great thing
Commented by: Farchi on October 20, 2006 12:01 PM
the arrangement is mediocre as is this band. you can just hear how they aren't all playing in time. as for the comments about mixing, the point of concert band is to play music so that it sounds good live,... not through a sound board. i hope this isn't this school's top band.
Commented by: steven on October 20, 2006 05:04 PM
Eh ... it sounded like a few of the violins were a bit squeaky in some of the higher parts, and they didnt sound as in sync as they should have been. Still, it's commendable that a student orchestra has such high participation -- they cancelled orchestra at my high school when we got down to one cello, one viola, and one violin.
Commented by: Liz on October 21, 2006 01:00 PM
To everybody that said it sucked why dont you try playing that with a bunch of other students I thought it was great kudos to all of those guys great job keep it up!
Commented by: the one on October 22, 2006 03:33 PM
is everybody a god-damn retard? a COVER is an arrangement that is a group's(in this case a highschool orchestra's) own composition of someone elses song.
i agree with everyone that liked it in that it was creative.
i also agree with those who didnt however. the drum part was to stereotypically dull and the overlap between the songs melody and harmony was unsupported.
Commented by: party boy on October 23, 2006 11:24 AM
Creative..? I'm not sure. Unbelievable....? I totally disagree. Really great...? I beg to differ. Great...? Maybe. Pretty sure any trained orchestra can match the performance. I'm probably just not getting the vibe. I suggest everyone listens to Metallica and symphony, that does a lot more for me....
Commented by: Jericho on October 23, 2006 12:05 PM
we knoe other orchesters can do that, but they did it first :S
Commented by: Farchi on October 23, 2006 01:47 PM
hey you dork farchi..wake up moron do u think this is the first lame school band to do a cover.they sucked but thats not the point,as in how your head must be pointed to say something that stupid derrrrrrrrrrrrrr!@!!!
Commented by: call me mr tibbs on October 26, 2006 01:52 PM
well to all of you downers: piss off!
i still think 'good for them!' it's f*ucking hard for a whole group to stay that in sync with eachother(not perfect but pretty damn good for a school band)
Commented by: dancingkitin on October 27, 2006 12:39 AM
very nice to hear clean music for a change
Commented by: kathy on October 29, 2006 04:04 PM
The orchestra did a great job, but it would have been nice to hear a little variation on the percussive side of things. The original has a lot of really great drum work in it, and it was lost in the transition. Aside from that, it was great
Commented by: splynki on November 1, 2006 11:33 AM
Come on you guys, they were pretty darn good!!! And for all of you so called "music critics" who have nothing good to say about them...Just SHUT THE HELL UP!!! At least they are trying and thats probably more than any of you can say. How many of you even played an instrument in High School? I rest my case!!

Commented by: si james, english fan on November 3, 2006 06:40 AM
That was great! It's did have some parts where the strings and/or drums got off beat, but it's a student orchestra! It was totally awesome and if a big name orchestra ( like the San Francisco one ) did it I would SO want a CD of it!
Commented by: lilybug on November 7, 2006 02:21 PM
Absolutely wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this is the best orchestra ever! I love it!
Commented by: Brittany on November 19, 2006 01:13 PM
Yea, the drums did get a little out of hand in a couple of spots, but for a school arrangement... bravo!! - True, professionals would nail it down, but I give them props for even attempting something outside of the box
Cheers

Commented by: heather on November 29, 2006 10:04 PM
K, it was good for a school band, great even, but the retards on here who are comparing it to a world class orchestral band, go to hell. It was GREAT! By the way brandi, your a fag!

Apocalyptica are three classical cellists who do Metallica covers among other things if anyone is interested.
Commented by: ITM on December 30, 2006 03:27 AM
Isn't it amazing how the ones who are the most critical of the performance are the ones who don't know the difference between a band and an orchestra and who play nothing more challenging than a CD player.
It was a marvelous performance, especially for a freshman orchestra. Has the arrangement ever been published?
