Modern Binary Explosives
This freaks me out a bit. If you thought you were afraid to fly before well get a load of this clip. Just one drop of binary explosive hidden in a pen is enough to vaporize a watermelon.

"Should we be worried?" Well, now that everyone knows how to make one, yeah, I guess we should be worried.

yeah, thats just a little messed up! I think its interesting that people find it entertaining to freak people even more with videos like this. I don't find it educating at all. Its hard enough that people have to deal with everyday life and crisis in their city... but now you can have them a little more worried that someone might have put a bomb in their pen. Nice job to whoever did this video. I think your freaking out people has worked.

Very very interesting video. I however do find it educational as this is clearly the producers intended purpose. As for this teaching someone how to build it, that is pure nonsense. It's no different then any other 4th of July firecracker, and the mothods demonstrated have been done in peoples backyards with everything from watermelons to refridgerators for decades. It's the fact that it is purely undetectable that makes it educational. I fly about 2 times per month and I'm worried a small bit every time. Pretending these issues do not exist in the world is pure ignorence, and in our ignorence they may strike us once again. I hope to God this does not happen ever, but it will remain closely in the back of my mind. Good clip!

This kind of stuff is just the beginning.I know we all love our i-pods and big LCD tv's and all but with all the advance's in modern technology what do we expect.Im sure this actually when used in the correct way is a fantastic product.Think of it being used lets say in a microscopic amount to clear plack out of artries going to the heart or certainly used in mining operations.Too bad though im sure once the bad guys get ahold of it,well look out.I like how he was in what appeared to be in a miltary style outfit because that certainly was not a miltary sanctioned test.Another thing,i'm pretty sure thats a rather tame item compared to whats really out there or coming n the near future.

Interesting how, even though the explosive was on the left, the spark was on the right... hmm...

Okay you cilvilians, not sure youll be able to understand the techno jargon but here goes=
at the flashpoint of approx 850 degrees anything within 4 to 6 inches is instantly vaporized therefore the melon actually as you see it is no longer part of the picture, you being human your brains ,err well most humans brain comprehend at about 1/500 of a second so therefor you would not see it happen, the stringers of light you see is actually the particle beams of 4 million or so atoms being crushed to the point of zero causiing extreme heat, thats why the flash appears to the right of ground zero,it really doesnt but your brain tells you it does so therefor you believe it.You have a downward flash that appears to go sideways because of thew pull of pressure being excerted upon the post.
well I hope you people understand it better now,

Commented by: TMaster on November 10, 2006 11:20 PM
No kidding man... This video is completely ridiculous... The "message" the video maker is trying to get across is obviously jaded as well. And the fact that the watermelon DOES LOOK like it just fell off the pole, makes the whole thing more of a piece of crap... I want them to do a real test. Strap it to a door similar to a cockpit door and blow that up. Or something more heavy duty than an f'n piece of fruit! NEXT VIDEO PLEASE! AND WITH BETTER PROPS! I want better proof of what this "mystery goo" can blow up if we're supposed to be sooo scared of it killing us while we fly. Thumbs down
Commented by: JS-10 on November 11, 2006 03:51 AM
Thats one drop, to blow up a watermelon. Watermelons arn't exactly tough are they? you'd need all that mix and a whole lot more, to attempt to blow up a plane.

okay let me get this straight..ill start in the posting order
IAH-you dummy the water melon vaporized ,you can clearly see that, there was only a small amount of explosive, just enough to clearly vaporize the melon not the post.According to your logic, gee we will blow up a dam with 1 hand grenade.Explosives can be directed to where the damge will be done.
okay the next idiot
JS-10 what do you think they will arrange your own private test,an m-80 firecracker will blow up a melon so why fake a test like that. You strap a pen like that next to any side cowling in a plane and it will blow just like that melon, all it is is aluminum you big dummy.
SAS -real educated comment you moron
its not the explosion you need to worry about its the heat generated during the explosion, planes are made of aluminum and that melts at about 250 degrees. So what do you think 2000 degrees is going to do in a split second to a plane. your the biggest dummy.I am so glad I live on mars, you humans are idiots. No wonder we hane not taken over your planet .

Second,
This is no warning. It is just some excuse for some kids to play with explosives. I am not particulary worried.
Third,
It seems like the mental capacity of some of the morons leaving comments on the site is declining at a alarming rate. I, personally, am shocked these monkeys are even able to type, nevermind try (in vain) to make a valid point.
I'm done.

I kind of think the point of posting this video was to show how funny it is that the video itself exists. Furthermore I think the Clip A Day guys tried to make it funny by saying that it vaporizes a watermelon. Thirdly some morons find it controversial and it's made for a full lists of comments, some I find very humorous. I think Clip A Day should post more then one Clip A Day. Maybe 1 funny, 1 stupid, 1 controversial, and 1 hot chick dancing around in her pajamas. If you guys are reading this as I think you may possibly be. Post about 2-5 Clips A Day and this site will be off the hook. I'm actually going to write them a personal email write now and I think I'm justified as one of the biggest fans of this site. After that I'm going to blow up some apples with dynamite!

"Okay you cilvilians, not sure youll be able to understand the techno jargon but here goes="
1. You can’t spell. It’s technical; techno is a type of music, I won’t even discuss your butchering of the word civilian.
"at the flashpoint of approx 850 degrees..."
2. The flashpoint is the temperature at which something will start to burn. And if you really knew "techno jargon," you would have put the units (C, F, or K) as well.
“you being human your brains ,err well most humans brain comprehend at about 1/500 of a second so therefor you would not see it happen,”
3. I think you err more than we do. I’m not gonna go check that 1/500 of a second claim.
"the stringers of light you see is actually the particle beams of 4 million or so atoms being crushed to the point of zero causiing extreme heat”
4. Stringers of light. Wow…too techno for me. Particle beams… well, you forgot to mention hyperspace, too. Just a reminder to a non-“cilvilian” like yourself, atoms can’t be crushed. And nothing causes heat. Reactions release heat.
“thats why the flash appears to the right of ground zero”
5. Hmm… I didn’t see the Twin Towers in this video… nice try though.
“it really doesnt but your brain tells you it does so therefor you believe it.”
6. If you take a look at each frame, you will see it actually appears there, thanks.
“You have a downward flash that appears to go sideways because of thew pull of pressure being excerted upon the post.”
7. Pressure doesn’t pull. Pressure pushes. And the rest of the sentence makes no sense.
“well I hope you people understand it better now,”
8. Thank you for your concern, little boy. Go back to your classroom, because its naptime.

what was inside of watermelon? kinda explosives and a pen is a detonator
Commented by: Ipat on November 28, 2006 07:03 AM
Ok, the pen had one drop of binary and vaporized one watermelon. If someone blew that in a plane, even a small hole in the window or something, could wipe out a plane.
Commented by: Shadowfire on November 29, 2006 07:54 AM
This video is a hoax and it has nothing to do with who is in power (BrianL).
1) If this stuff is so rare (i.e., expensive and hard to get) then how did he get it?
2) If he only needed the bit on the fuse then why did he make so much?
3) What did he do with the rest?
4) Did you notice the sparks on the lower right hand side (while the pen is on the left)? This indicates a low-powered explosive.
5) Did you see the white wire on the rght side?
Commented by: djconklin on December 6, 2006 02:27 PM
As djconklin points out, this video is a hoax.
It only proves the power of bullshit and that's the true power of terrorism: to make everyone vulnerable to believe anything that might be considered dangerous.
Take a freeze frame from the explosion. Draw a line through the smears left by every flying fragment in the frame that you can find, and see where the lines converge: At the lower right of the melon. Not at the front of the melon where the pen was placed.
And an explosive this powerful would have gone off with a brilliant flash. Yet we never see a flash. Just glowing sparks, again from the lower right.

That formula realy works,I made up a batch and tested it out with a friend of mine. When my back was turned he touched his finger to it,then to a lit candle....lets just say...we now call him LEFTY.

Looks like a straight forward Tri-Iodide mix to me. Easy enough and readily available components.
Making a bomb is easy, the really tricky bit is not to be there when it goes off.
Commented by: Don on January 14, 2007 02:32 AM
Unless of course you want to be a martyr, then being there when it goes off is the whole point.
Commented by: B.M.F. on January 14, 2007 03:01 AM
That was interesting, but it was just a watermelon. I could do that with a hammer, which I believe is legal on a an airplane. Be very afraid...
Commented by: Matthew on January 15, 2007 01:05 AM
Cool I wish I could get that stuff for toy cars and toy airplanes. Like piloting a small bomb!Watch it blow up and follow the toy with a second toy car, plane or boat and feel like yor there!
Commented by: Whowantstoknow? on January 20, 2007 02:20 PM
I have my doubts about this mysterious binary explosive as well. The mixture looked like that used to make an electric match used to set off fireworks. That pen tube is easily large enough to hold a 'compound blasting cap' which would easily vaporize a melon, and can be detonated with by lighting a fuse. Tri-Iodine as one poster mentioned above, becomes sensitive to friction... super sensitive... like as in breathing on it! So when the guy in the video went to put the tape on it, had it have been sensitized Iodine crystals (Tri-Iodine, which is what my first thoughts were), he would have likely lost the skin off all fingers touching it in the resulting blast. I think it is a hoax. If they wanted to prove the power of the binary, why not let us see the fuse with the binary explosives on it, rather than hiding it in a ink pen case. And yes, they could have shown several test shots with the amount they made up. An explosive with the velocity they claim this had, and with the amount left over, should have been enough to give a old washing machine or refrigerator a rough way to go. I have seen many explosive demonstrations and this looked like a sophomoric attempt to wow the children on the internet.
JMHO.
