I don't see any reason why this commercial should
have been banned, it perfectly aligns with our ove
rwhelming socially charged desires for hyper mascu
linity and homophobia in the same context. A youn
g man who exhibits less that traditionally masculi
ne behavior inflicting on no one his actions or be
haviors is assaulted for not conforming to gender
standards with a giant machine gun. The way he ho
lds his hands and moves his hips while he is walki
ng subtly or not-so-subtly suggests to the audienc
e that he is not a specimen of "manliness
" and most viewers will be prone to makin
g assumptions about his sexuality as well. So, be
cause he is a "disgrace to the man race&a
mp;quot; (not conforming to standard of masculinit
y, his only choice in the "man"
race) he is subject to violence. I see this sort
of idea promoted in the media on a daily basis, I
can't imagine THIS is where they draw the line.
